Winston Salem Rapper, Paragon Don Delivers His Engaging Debut Album

The, “Crabs in a barrel,” analogy, for some reason, is one of the most interesting analogies out there, to me. In all reality, I would say that’s because it’s one of the more accurate ones, and nowhere is it more apparent than in Hip-Hop and it’s local music scenes. In cities all across America–and now, the World–unsigned artists are battling one another for the few label looks that happen to stray away from the usual suspects. In doing this, the competition can sometimes spread jealously and in turn, get to the point of sabotage. All in the name of not being, “local.” Brilliantly turning this notion into an impressive project, North Carolina rapper, Paragon Don releases his engaging debut album, Last Year Local.

Relying heavily on samples, jazzy production and Don’s pen, Last Year Local is a musical exploration of all the talents that Don has to offer the industry, as well as what he hopes to be his arrival. Showcasing a poise and polish that many young MC’s take years to get, Don proves himself on tracks like, “Last Year Local,” “Jupiter Jazz,” and others as he establishes himself as a worthy lyricist. With 12-tracks to tell the story, he does it brilliantly as he says goodbye to being local.
