Tylo TinyAmp’s latest release, “Crenshaw Madness,” is more than just a song—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Nipsey Hussle and a celebration of Los Angeles culture. The track, produced by the legendary DJ Battlecat, features the late Uncle Chucc on the hook and was built on a beat originally crafted for Nipsey, making the release deeply personal for Tylo.
Reflecting on the moment DJ Battlecat played him the beat, Tylo described it as a blessing. “The legendary Battlecat played a beat for me in the studio which was originally for Nip. It didn’t take long for us to create magic,” he shared. This reverence for Crenshaw, and the significance it holds beyond the district itself, resonates throughout the track, with Tylo expressing his connection to his hometown in bars like, “Crenshaw stretched from Wilshire to Torrance.”
The visual for “Crenshaw Madness” mirrors the authenticity Tylo brought to the song. His favorite scene, shot in a local park, was a family function filled with genuine moments, emphasizing the sense of community. “It feels like home,” Tylo reflected, though he acknowledged the bittersweetness of Uncle Chucc not being able to receive his flowers for his contributions to the track.
Tylo, an ex-convict turned entrepreneur, channels his journey through music that addresses social issues head-on. His previous releases, such as “Great America” and “No Class Worx,” touch on timely topics like COVID-19 mandates and racial bias, showcasing his ability to blend personal narratives with broader societal critiques.
For “Crenshaw Madness,” Tylo said he didn’t have to tweak the production. “It was tailor-made,” he noted, explaining that working with Battlecat is always special. “When we create, it’s like magic. I just sit there in awe at the things he’s able to do.”
The release also marks another chapter in Tylo’s commitment to preserving Crenshaw’s legacy through his “Crenshaw by Nature” brand, which offers quality merch and continues to represent the culture that shaped him. Looking forward, Tylo plans to drop more visuals and collaborations, including work with Dom Kennedy, produced by Grammy-winner Don Cannon.
