Ty Fortune Floats Over KADDYX4’s Production On “Sunkissed” Single

Southside Jamaica Queens-bred artist Ty Fortune is ready to make waves with his latest release, Sunkissed. Known for his versatility and unwavering dedication to his craft, Ty’s new track is more than just another summer anthem—it’s a vibrant snapshot of his life and creative evolution.

The journey behind Sunkissed started in July 2024, while Ty was finalizing a larger project set to release in a playlist format. He wanted to channel the current energy of his hometown, Southside Jamaica Queens, where the genre of Sexy Drill is making waves. “I needed some sexy drill beats expeditiously,” he recalls. That’s when KADDYX4, a Toronto native and longtime collaborator—and blood cousin—stepped in. KADDYX4 sent over two beats, and Ty immediately knew Sunkissed was the one. The hook came to him effortlessly after just two days, and with input from his team, Ty perfected the song over another day of recording.

Reflecting on his process, Ty says, “Once I lay the hook down, that’s the majority of the song already complete, so all that was left were the verses.” And when the final mix arrived, Ty felt certain: Sunkissed was “one of them ones for real.”

The lyric that stands out the most to Ty is a vivid depiction of New York City nightlife: “It’s New Jersey living, but it’s New York City nightlife, hit Carbone for dinner, then Pergola for the night spot, Hennessy over ice shots, ice lemonade hookah piped up.” These lines, Ty shares, are personal, a reflection of summer nights spent with a special woman who remains close to his heart. Through the female lens, he paints the picture of a quintessential summer weekend in New York.

What makes Sunkissed unique is how Ty managed to embody the trend of Sexy Drill while staying true to his own style. “Whenever I try to dabble in a sound that’s trendy or the current wave, I always try my best to have my rendition of it embody who I am,” Ty explains. For him, this release is proof that he’s one of the most versatile artists out there. He approached the track with a balance of fun and focus, saying, “The best part about making this record was not taking it too seriously.”

Ty Fortune’s inspiration for Sunkissed comes directly from his experiences during the summer of 2024. From the fleeting romances to the long nights in the city’s hottest spots, Ty wanted to capture the magic of New York City in the summer. “There’s really nothing like summer in NYC,” he says, hoping that listeners can feel and visualize those experiences through his music.

For the cover art, Ty took inspiration from iconic album art, specifically mentioning SZA’s Z and G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer. Musically, though, his experiences and his own persona drove the track forward.

Ty’s connection with KADDYX4 is more than just creative; it’s familial. The producer is Ty’s blood cousin, and their chemistry in the studio is undeniable. “Me and Kaddy just click when it comes to cooking up,” Ty shares. They give each other space to shine without stepping on toes, which is why their collaborations feel so seamless. The two have much more in the pipeline, and Ty is eager for the world to hear what they’ve been working on.

With Sunkissed set to drop, Ty Fortune’s plans for the rest of 2024 are packed with promise. He’s gearing up to release a full playlist before the year’s end, with a title reveal coming soon. Music videos are also in the works, with one already planned for Sunkissed. He’s also looking to expand into fashion, with a clothing line slated for release in early 2025.

Fortune Sounds, the independent label Ty co-founded with Cameronn Pinn, is the driving force behind these ventures. What started in Ty’s basement studio is rapidly becoming a multimedia powerhouse. The label handles not only music but also video production and marketing, all with the goal of staying independent and controlling their destiny.

Ty Fortune is taking his shot at the spotlight, and with Sunkissed, he’s showing that his sound, vision, and ambition are ready for center stage. “That song is going to live for 10 summers on,” he confidently states, and with the momentum he’s building, it’s hard to argue otherwise.
