Surfa Solo Pays Homage to Oakland in New EP ‘Ice City’
Surfa Solo is making waves and he’s proving that he’s someone to keep watch for as he brings new and fresh talent into the music industry. In his latest release, ‘Ice City’ he pays respect to the place where he grew up, Oakland, California, in the tape’s seven tracks.
Ice City comes after a plethora of singles released earlier this year, including his song “Back Bone” that features his long time collaborator Rayven Justice. Some other noteworthy tracks from the California emcee include “Billie Ocean” featuring Bariee and his 2018 EP Black Sheep. Now Surfa Solo is coming for the throne as he shares 7 tracks of pure heat that display his talent and what he has going on.
Over Ice City’s entirety, listeners can be enveloped in Solo’s unique sound which he describes as being “melody driven rap music with a west coast bay area twist.” He has a standout tracks on the project such as the intro and lead single from the project “Straitjacket” which serves as a dance anthem and record specifically catered to the ladies. He also recruited some heavy Bay Area hitters such as Guapdad4000, Yhung TO, Rayven Justice, and Swayze to help curate various sounds on his project. There is also “Warzone” where he gets candid about his version of Oakland where it is ridden with gun violence and how that affects how he lives day-to-day.
“I gain my passion [for music] out of the feeling and journey of making music,” Solo said. “It motivates me when I’m in the booth and gives my everyday life some meaning and I can gain energy from it while also making money. It’s a vibe. My legacy inspires me to always keep pushing to leave a lasting imprint behind.”
After serving some time in jail, Surfa Solo was released and knew for a fact that he was ready to commit 100% to music. His commitment would soon pay off with him having songs featured on BET Jams and him now releasing the best body of work so far in his career. ‘Ice City’ showcases his skills in a completely new way, and sets the tone for what’s next for Surfa Solo.
