Check out our interview below with the rising star.
RizeMag: For those who don’t know you, tell us a little about yourself and how your musical journey began?
- I’m an LA native, born into a music family. My grandfather and dad were both musicians/entertainers. As they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. That’s where I get everything from musically, them two. I’m very attentive of things I observe, and I picked up on a lot of what they did and what they are doing and wanted to be just like them… only bigger (lol).
RizeMag: How would you describe your sound?
- My sound is new wave R&B with an edge. I’m heavily influenced by older 90s, early 2000s RnB/HipHop. My dad put me on a lot of those different hits during car rides or even just as home. And like I said, I’m attentive, I picked up on a lot of those groups or standalone artists. Also was only rapping during my earlier music years. Which is why you hear me barred up on a few of my songs.
RizeMag: I discovered who you were because I’m a huge Mozzy fan and you’ve collaborated with him on a number of singles, how did you guys start working together?
- I was able to meet up with his manager, DaveO, he tapped in wit me on IG and the rest was simple I just showed up and knocked out records. People of course don’t know but all of those records were recorded weeks apart from each other back in the summer of ‘17. And we got more in the vault so be on the lookout for those.
RizeMag: You’ve dropped your FIRST official project “EndlessWinter” a couple days ago, did you feel a lot of pressure creating this project and how long has this project been in the works?
- I didn’t feel pressured, I wasn’t allowing myself to feel pressured. If anything I was just trying to make sure I was in the best form of myself to put out this music and share with the world. I could say that I’ve been working on this project for almost two years. My most recent recorded song off the project was “MyBoo” just weeks ago and my first song recorded on this project was probably “HereWithMe” back in late 2017. Kinda funny how they’re paired together now.
RizeMag: What helps you get your creative juices flowing? If any.
- I can definitely say what doesn’t help is a cluttered mind. If there are things weighing me down I’m good for nothing damn near. But something that always helps is good energy around. That’s probably the most important thing in any one of my sessions or whatever creative I’m doing.
RizeMag: What do you think about the current state of R&B right now and who are a couple of your favorite artists?
- I feel it’s booming right now, there are a lot of new artists as well as old who are really making sure that people don’t forget about us. And People are definitely showing their love for us right back. Some of my favorite artists are Chris Brown, Charlie Stardom, August Alsina, Ty Dolla, Ye Ali, and probably Maurice Moore. I can admit I don’t overwhelm myself with too many artists, but I stay up with those guys pretty tough.
RizeMag: Top 3 favorite tracks off “EndlessWinter” and why?
- In no order: MyBoo, LikeU, and Naked. If I could name all 12 I definitely would but, those 3 probably at the top.
RizeMag: Who would you like to collaborate with?
- Besides any of those above, definitely would love to work with Snoop Dogg, I just feel like that’s a big bucket lister for anybody. Big Sean, Drake, J. Cole, and honestly Future would be hella lit too. A huge one for me has always been Nipsey Hussle, RIP, but who knows. I know he was a mad man in the booth and recorded consistently, maybe I’ll be able to get on a hook or something of an old recording. That would be toooooo lit. Same goes for Michael Jackson as well.
RizeMag: Lastly, what can we expect from you the rest of the year going into next?
- MORE MUSIC! I have toooo many songs in the vault ready to press play on. And if the love is anywhere near like the love I’m getting off this first project, I’m ready to drop like, YESTERDAY. More projects, couple EPs in the works for sure. Just content period in every way and form. Just know, Winter is ENDLESS around here and DCMBR isn’t going anywhere!
