J. Hoard Shines In New Single “Devil Is A Liar”

J. Hoard’s music interweaves genres to articulate his vivid songwriting. The multi-talented NYC artist has an eclectic approach to music that has yielded songwriting collaborations with artists such as Black Coffee on the 2022 Grammy-winning Subconsciously album, Chance the Rapper on the 2017 Grammy-winning Coloring Book album and Brasstracks.

Additionally, J. Hoard has worked closely with a host of jazz-experimental artists such as Jose James, Endea Owens and the legendary Meshell Ndegeocello – J. is a singer on her 2019 Grammy-nominated Ventriloquism album. No matter the genre, platform or language (as demonstrated through his backing vocals on the Latin Grammy-winning album Sobrevolando from Cultura Profética), J. Hoard always delivers and makes a huge impression, as can be heard on his new single, “Devil Is A Liar”.

With “Devil Is A Liar”, J. Hoard speaks on the struggles faced by artists in the industry. The track is a must-hear and showcases his phenomenal voice and masterful vocal production skills, commanding attention with mainly voice alone through a dynamic vocal arrangement and lush harmonies alongside minimal production.

Speaking further on how he created the track, J. Hoard says, “This loop resulted from the many (virtual) conversations I had with a group of musicians in May 2020. We were asking: when and how do we speak up as artists in an ever-changing, ever-weirding industry? I concluded the devil is a liar. Then, and now, ‘devil’ refers to anything that harms one’s sense of place, sense of belonging and sense of self. The main antidote is to find peace of mind – find one’s centre.”

With his signature blend of musical styles and thoughtful lyrics, J. Hoard delivers a powerful message that is both timely and timeless. And fans can expect more music from J. Hoard in the coming months as he continues to push the boundaries of what it means to be an artist in today’s music industry.
