J French Unveils Music Video for Soulful New Track ‘On & On’

On the heels of the indie success from his seventh studio album Church the Mixtape, Dallas, Texas-based, multi-instrumentalist, and producer J French released his new single “On & On” on Friday (2/7). Inspired by a display of human decency during a brief encounter with Drake’s father outside the recent Grammy Awards ceremony amid arguably the biggest Rap feud in history, French wrote the new song about the importance of unity and positivity.
“I’ve always been a bigger fan of Kendrick’s than I ever was of Drake’s”, French explains. “But upon briefly meeting Drake’s father after an incident outside of the GRAMMYs, it vindicated my understanding of the importance of recognizing people’s humanity, and the power of unity and positivity”. Today, French shares the song’s Seer Wilson-directed music video. Shot in LA and co-directed by French, the simple yet stylish visuals reflect the song’s reliance on the bare essentials of a beloved, bygone era in Hip-Hop. With a sampled sax riff, stirring violins, and a sparse instrumental originally produced by Matt Monaco, French reconstructed the beat and made it anew.
“Matt Monaco sent me an original beat that I remade with a ‘Boom-Bap’ feel, going back to the essence of what makes [Hip-Hop] so potent. The title ‘On on & On’ refers to the evolution and revolution of the world, and the fact that things often come full circle.” – J French
