Q&A Interview With Hakeem Rowe – ‘Our Generation Music’ Host

Meet Hakeem Rowe, a hip-hop tastemaker who seeks out and interviews brilliant underground artists. Hakeem has built a name for himself through conducting interviews and recording behind-the-scenes vlogs at some of the most prestigious festivals, parties, and other music events, as well as being the host behind viral material with Our Generation Music (OGM).

Hakeem grew up in Clarendon, Jamaica, before relocating to New Jersey when he was nine years old. He used to spend his free time skating, playing football, and making music when he was younger.

In a recent interview, Rowe said that ” Because of my upbringing being from Jamaica, my country touches so much culture that is loved. Our values and just the way we are as Jamaicans. We are known to be very funny, charming, outgoing, and hardworking. There is a joke that Jamaicans have like five jobs, which is what I’m on right now. I then moved to the suburbs of New Jersey from there is where I got to understand a different side of life.”

The 20-year-old dreamer bought a one-way ticket to California with only $200 in his pocket to follow his dreams of becoming a singer. His planned itinerary, however, took an unexpected detour after he reached in Los Angeles, California.

Rowe gained expertise and an interested audience while hosting at No Jumper for three years. His audience is just as committed in his career and the musicians he interviews. Hakeem is now bringing his talent to the Our Generation Music (OGM) platform, a Hip-Hop, music, and cultural news website. Hakeem has had amazing moments with artists such as OhGeesy, Bktherula, SoFaygo, D. Savage, and LUCKI, with some of his interviews becoming social media sensations. Hakeem’s charisma shows through as he provides viewers a behind-the-scenes look at upcoming musicians; he uses his platform to generate newsworthy, yet enjoyable, content that will aid OGM’s development.

In addition to becoming a great media personality, Hakeem aspires to be a music mogul. He also has A&R and music production abilities, as he has contributed beats for two song placements on Dro Fe’s album Norco 3.

Do you have a memorable interview moment? If so what was it? (Feel free to share 2-3)

  1. Most memorable interview moment was when Lil Got It talked about having an anxiety attack after having sex. This interview went viral and that is when my interviews got more attention online.
  2. Mario Judah moonwalking in the middle of the interview – at that point people realized my interviews were way different from others.
  3. Lancey Foux and I had a real conversation about the origins of African Americans and knowing where we are from or who we really are. It was a really deep and good moment.
