‘Girl Talk’ is a Compilation Project That’s Sure to Impress

HRDRV (pronounced “hard drive”) is a record label that works specifically with independent artists, songwriters, and producers to provide creative services such as cover artwork, visualizers, mixing and mastering, and more. HRDRV founder, Mickey Shiloh in conjunction with writing collective ILL, recently hosted a virtual writing camp called “Girl Talk,” — specifically for women honing their craft in music. The event occurred in honor of women’s history month, and the attendees participated in a week full of panelists, networking with songwriters and producers, and received one free mix/master and also created a sound kit. Lastly, the attendees created a compilation project together as one of the camp’s projects.

Shiloh’s Girl Talk event was a program for women run by all women, made to help them with writing, networking, and learning what it is like to navigate being a woman in the music business from other notable women in the industry. Some of the panelists of the weekend included singer-songwriter Breana Marin, pop singer/songwriter Elley Duhé, and R&B singer India Shawn.

To put on this event, Mickey Shiloh also enlisted the help of the team known as “ILL,” which stands for: Isadore Noir, ladidai, and Luna Byrd — the writing camp coordinators. ILL approached Shiloh with the idea of the girl talk camp as a result of text between ILL member Isadore and Mickey labeled “#girltalk.”

The “I” stands for Isadore, who is an East Flatbush native, and a founding member of ILL, known for her sticky melodies and R&B roots sprinkled with the essence of classical music, gospel, and punk which creates a sound that transcends genres and cultures. While the “L” and “L” in ILL stand for ladidai and Luna Byrd, both founding members of the group. ladidai is a multi-genre songwriter focusing on contemporary pop, R&B, and hip-hop music. ladidai’s individualistic style has gotten the attention of people associated with Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Drake, and Chance the Rapper, among other artists. The last “L,” and certainly not least is Luna Byrd, breaking the traditional R&B sound, blending “Dominican and Haitian sounds with soul-infused pop to create a style that transcends genres and cultures.”  Luna has also been featured in Elevator Magazine, She Buzzin Magazine and Vibes Magazine, garnering the attention of stations all around the globe such as Tribe Urban Radio, Gfm Radio & Worldwide FM and is a 2020 ASCAP Foundation Harold Adamson Lyric Award recipient. The award-winning supergroup dubbed the “camp leaders” for Girl Talk help with the camp in writing, producing, and creating a community.

The participants, Gingerr Rust, Maya Batra, Mona Soul, Shira Luce, and two producers Roman “Sith” Lane and Ge Oh, worked and collaborated to create a 10-track collaboration masterpiece, which they eponymously named Girl Talk
