Get Familiar With Atlanta Band Twelve25 & Their Engaging New Video For, “Bugspray”

Over the last decade or two, Atlanta has become a beacon for Hip-Hop, headlined by the Trap Music movement that started in the early 2000s with Gucci Mane, T.I. and others & thrived in later years with more recent artists like Future and Young Thug. While the city still produces plenty of other sounds, most popular music stemming from Atlanta tends to sway in that sonic direction. Enter in Twelve25, a 5-piece indie band from ATL who’s sound is partially Hip-Hop, but tends to pull more from Alt-Rock and Soul a tad bit more. Looking to break into the masses, they check into our pages for the first time with their engaging new video for, “Bugspray.”

Serving as one of the standouts from their recently released album, Upside of Down, “Bugspray,” is a breezy listen that takes a few spins to truly appreciate it for what it is. At first listen, the ethereal vocals allow the record to feel like an angelic experience before diving into the lyrics and the visuals. “Monsters in closets, in my bedroom. Boogieman coming to get you,” croons the lead vocalist over steady guitar riffs and ambient drum breaks, helping to set the tone even further.

Directed by Sean Valdivieso, the video finds our hero alone in a park, surrounded by nature, a picnic and a precarious character. Standing right behind a tree, the boogieman makes his official appearance as he hovers over the vocalist, bringing the grim lyrics to life. Though by the end of the video she seems to shake the creature in it’s physical sense, there’s still a feeling in both the song and the video that the weight is still on her shoulders.

Be sure to take a listen to the video below and get familiar with Twelve25.
