In the year of 2024, the way that people consume content is exponentially different than it was even 10 years ago. Where an artist used to be able to take a hiatus for a few years and then return as if nothing happened, nowadays an artist can be left in the dust staying silent for even a few months. After taking a brief hiatus of his own, rising Tempe rapper Lil QWERTY is back and ready to jump into the action, as he unveils his sincere new single, “RIP Kimbo.”

Produced by Tech Club, “RIP Kimbo,” is an engaging, self effacing single that finds Lil QWERTY leaving no stones unturned. Touching mainly on his break from music and his subsequent return, the record finds him completely baring his soul and he speaks on things like bloated expectations from family and friends, relocating in pursuit of your goals and just everything that comes with ultimately chasing a dream that has no concrete plan to success. Set to the backdrop of the Sedona desert, the Zane Berry directed visuals do a wonderful job of complimenting the aforementioned qualities of the record, as most of the video focuses on a stone faced QWERTY, which gives each one of his lyrics a bit more authenticity to them. Serving as his first release of 2024, and his first solo release in a few years, “RIP Kimbo,” is both a great introduction for new fans, while also satisfying fans who have been around for a while.
