Mac P Dawg’s Star Will Continue To Shine
We’ve been saying the words “Rest In Peace” way too often over the past year or so in an industry where we have lost legends and young rising stars. A legend to me isn’t just defined by a person’s success but the [impact] they left on the world. The statement “give a person their flowers while they are here” holds the uttermost value and more important than ever. On April 6th, 2020, I just so happened to open twitter and as I began to scroll, I started to see “RIP MAC P DAWG” tweets and I had to double take because I honestly couldn’t believe it. Already in the midst of a pandemic, I’m asking myself can 2020 get any worst. There needs to be a [serious conversation] about gun violence not just in LA but in the rap community overall.
Joshua Andrade Galvez aka Mac P Dawg was a star and he definitely had a promising future ahead. He didn’t seem to rush the process or oversaturate with releases. What’s crazy is that he didn’t take this music thing super serious in the beginning but when he realized people were really f*cking with him, he knew this was his calling. Hit records like “Let Me Know” with OhGeesy “Half And Half” and “Go Getters” with Fenix Flexin have surpassed millions of views and I know his star will continue to shine and I hope as a community in LA we will continue to honor him and the great music he left us with.
We wanted to share an Interview we did with Mac P Dawg last year that we unfortunately didn’t get the chance to put up at the time. Check it out below.
1) Tell us a fun fact or facts about yourself that people may not know? Also, what are three words you would say describe who you are?
I always keep to myself. I’m never worried about anything and always minding my business. Three words that describe me best are loyal, confident and humble.
2) Tell us a little about the first time you stepped into the booth to record music? How did it make you feel?
I always felt like the studio was my environment. Everything about it. The soundproof walls, dark tinted rooms, loud music. The only time I can write is when I’m in the studio. That’s my working environment, everything just kinda comes out easier. I really feel like myself locked in the booth.
3) Did you feel people would resonate to your music right away?
Of course I did because we all have the same struggle it’s just how we deal with it. I put all my problems on a beat and people I grew up with been through the same problems I been through so they feel it every time.
4) Out of your current released tracks, which one is your favorite and why?
I can say “Half N Half” with my boy Fenix Flexin. It’s my favorite because it was the first song that I ever wrote to. We dropped it and in only two months we got a million hits. That’s really what pushed me and made me believe I could do this shit.
5) You were blessed with the opportunity to open up for Shoreline Mafia on their OTX tour, what was that experience like for you?
It’s always a good experience to travel somewhere new I’ve never been. The environment is different, people are different and even the food. What I liked most was seeing the different type of fans and how they get crazy listening to music we made.
6) As far as the West Coast goes, who are some of your favorite artists right now? And who would you like to collab with?
Young Dolph, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent are for sure on my day to day playlist. I’d fasho do some music with 50 Cent. I spent my whole middle school years playing his CDs.
7) Can you give us any details on your debut project release?
My mixtape is going to have producers from the east and west coast. I’m bringing two different sides and sounds together. This project is really gonna show people how dedicated and confident I am about this music shit. I’m writing all my negative and positive life stories that built me to the man I am today.
8) Lastly, What are some specific goals you have for the remaining year going into next?
One of my biggest goals is to start having my own headlining shows. I wanna start getting paid for the shit I love doing. I wanna help put my momma in a better place.
