19-year-old singer, rapper, and songwriter Malaynah is making noise all across the West Coast and her star is shining brighter than ever. The Boyle Heights native was already gaining popularity on social media with her empowering freestyles. In late 2018, she caught Cardi B’s attention when she did a freestyle over her hit record, “Money” and garnished over 12 million views when Cardi reposted on her Instagram page.

Since then, she has inked a deal with Bay Area label Empire and continues to prove why she is next up. Her latest video, “Karma” is already over 1 million views and counting. On September 20th, we got to see Malaynah perform at the Welcome To The West Festival featuring Ice Cube, Suga Free, DJ Quik, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Dom Kennedy, Joe Moses, and many more.

Besides your love for music, do you have any hobbies or anything you love to do that people may not know about?

Besides music, one of my favorite hobbies is painting!

What was your first reaction or thought when Cardi B reposted your freestyle video for her song “Money?”

My first reaction was “No F****** Wayyyy” I was so happy and excited to start taking my music to the next level.

Knowing what women are faced with in this industry, and as you continue to grow as an artist, have you thought about the obstacles you will face? Or have you encountered some of those obstacles already?

As a female artist, I have thought about those obstacles I will have to face. But, they don’t really faze me, because I know who I am and what I’m about.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

My favorite part about being an artist is the unlimited creativity I have.

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

I definitely have dealt with performance anxiety. But, as soon as I hit the stage, everything goes away.

Any artists or producers you want to collaborate with in the future?

One artist I would like to collaborate with is J. Cole!

If you had one message to give your fans, what would it be?

One message I would like to give to my fans is: “Never be afraid of your OWN potential.”

What’s next for Malaynah?

I have a WHOLE LOT of music on the way, a project coming out, and a lot of new content on my YouTube Channel coming soon. Stay tuned!
