R&B is in a great position, right now. While some people may disagree with that and say it’s all of over the place, respectfully, those people don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. Just like Hip-Hop, current R&B is so diverse and consistently evolving that there’s really something for everybody. You have the soulful artists like Mahalia, the traditional ones like Leon Bridges & finally, you have the Pop&B crowd, spearheaded by rising star, PapiChuloTeej. After capturing a buzz with his previous drop, he returns with a 2-song-EP, S.O.T.R.

Featuring fellow crooner, marcus g, “S.O.S.” is the first track on the short project, and captures the exact essence of where Teej’s sound has gone. Utilizing his ability to blend perfectly with the production, Teej croons about longing for love in a place where it seems distant, eagerly calling out for somebody to save him. With the beat meshing brilliantly with the vibe of Teej’s lyrics and vocal tone, “S.O.S.” is definitely one of those songs you can keep on loop for a few listens to help brighten your day.

Finishing off with, “Distant,” Teej switches gears a bit, sonically, for this one. While the easy-breezy Pop sound is still prevalent, he pivots away from the beach-like sounds, and instead transports you straight to 1982, calling on distinct synthesizers and a simple drum pattern that make you want to campaign for Teej as Marty McFly in the Back To The Future remake. While, “S.O.S.” is without a doubt my favorite of the pair, “Distant” will always standout to me as an attempt to go deeper creatively, that worked.

Take a listen to the short EP below and hop on the hype train now before it’s too full.
