Recap: Inside Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Gallery

Friday, August 23rd was the start of the Marathon Gallery at Shoe Palace on Melrose. Last week Puma and the Marathon Clothing announced the gallery in Nipsey’s honor to celebrate his life and his beautiful legacy.

We arrived right at 11 and it was already a line, it wasn’t super long though. The gallery wasn’t directly inside of Shoe Palace it was next door at their pop up shop. You could honestly feel Nipsey’s positive vibes in the air while the hot sun beamed down on us. They didn’t let us in right away, Nipsey’s family and friends including his dad, brother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and rapper YG were in attendance and the first to view the gallery. All of his family were in good spirits.

After about an hour and a half, the line was finally moving and about 10 people were let in at a time. My level of excitement was starting to peak as we were getting closer to the front.

As we are standing in line, I look up and see Nipsey Hussle’s grandma at the front of the line talking and hugging people. I thought maybe she was about to leave but to my surprise, she is coming down the line literally hugging every single person and telling them how she appreciates everyone coming out and everyone was showing her so much love. My heart was warm, I almost shed tears.

Now, it’s finally our time to go in. As soon as I walk in, I look to my left and it was a monument announcing The Neighborhood Nip Foundation. A foundation that will continue the legacy of Nip and the hard work he was doing for our community that inspired us all.

I was so inspired walking around the gallery just seeing everything Nipsey stood for. He put together plans and executed them. He had a purpose and hope for the community and he wanted to see everyone reach for the stars and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. In the words of Blacc Sam, “you made the set proud.!”
