Who Should Be On Your Radar in 2019?
I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed seeing and experiencing Los Angeles turn into a hot bed with endless amounts of talent from artists who showed their versatility and drive to reach to the stars. Each week it was something new that had the city buzzing, whether it was hard hitting hyphy bangers or true West Coast heat, this year goes down in the books.
With that being said, let’s look back to some of our favorite artists, projects, etc. Here are the artist we feel should be on your radar in 2019.
Ernest Kingg
Compton rapper Ernest Kingg is somewhat of a hidden gem. We didn’t get a whole lot of releases from him this year but every time he dropped new music, the quality was superior. The past few months he’s been dropping new visuals, singles, and his most recent Reserved EP.
He doesn’t stick to just one style or flow, he’s very versatile. You can just sit back, put on your headphones and vibe out to his playa anthems. He should be climbing the rankings next year.
Ken Malik
If you follow Ken Malik on instagram then you would know he’s not only one hell of a lyricist but also a family man. He doesn’t make excuses, he does what he needs to do to survive in these crazy streets. You can feel the pain in his music, he will spit about some real sh*t but also give you some motivation. He’s such an underrated artist.
His numbers doesn’t match his talent. He deserves way more support and hopefully he’ll get that next year.
Marty Blaze
Marty Blaze was quiet most of the year until about September when he dropped a visual for his track “Out The Gutta” which is also the title for the album he dropped in November. He ended the year with a banger really showcasing his talent and sharing his stories through his honest lyrics and confident flow.
Don’t wait till an artist blows up to support them, now is the time.
Trev Deshon
It’s only a handful of artists in LA’s underground who really can rap, and Trev Deshon is that guy. “Ni**a making money tryna feed my daughter, I don’t have a daughter but I’m working like it” is just one bar from his track “Grandma’s Basement.” That should tell you a little on how dedicated he is.
His fiery bars will hit you right in the face and you might have to press the reply button to really understand his lingo. Get familiar with Trev and watch out for him next year.
K Grizz
K Grizz is just hard as fu*k. His slappers should be played across Southern California at the functions and yes both guys and girls will be on the dance floor turning up. He gets straight to the front rapping over bass heavy instrumentals paired with his distinct delivery. And it gets better.. he dropped two albums that’s a must listen. K Grizz is coming harder 2019 just watch.
Charlie Jay
Charlie Jay is sick with the pen. He has the ear for hit singles and club bangers. This year for him has been pretty productive releasing his Silent Moves EP and a handful of singles with features from Skeme and 03 Greedo.
He’ll drop a random freestyle that will have you like “that’s hard” and then at other times he’ll slow it down for the ladies. He can do a bit of everything. We’re looking forward to him having another productive year.
Osbe Chill
Osbe Chill is one of the most consistent and hard working emcee on our list. His vibe, his drive is different and it shows in his music. This year he dropped three EP’s and this past month an incredible album F.T.V.B (From The Very Bottom) in which he showcased his lyrical strengths and expressed the lows and highs of his come up.
He’s one of my favorite rising artists. The grind isn’t and won’t stop for Osbe, don’t sleep on him.
Pure Luxury
Pure Luxury hasn’t taken off just yet but he’s becoming a favorite in the city. His music catalog is small right now but his hit single “Not Yo Nigga” has racked up over 700k streams on soundcloud. His music is fun and he brings nothing but energy to a track. He’s proven to be a hitmaker already but once he drops more music he will definitely take off.
Holland Izz
Holland Izz is the most energetic and entertaining rapper on our list. If he’s set to perform somewhere he’ll have the function jumping. That also reflects when he hits the studio. From Sunny Tapes Vol.1 to his IZZM project, you’ll be impressed with his multi-voices and the 808 instrumentals behind his infectious delivery. He’s proven to be a star so watch out for more sauce next year.
Chris O’Bannon
If you want to talk about someone who works hard lets chat about Chris O’Bannon. All while maintaining his own career, he has his own music production company and has worked with a lot of top dawgs in the industry. He released his standout project Sauce Meets World back in the summer, he’s just been working and dropping hits all year long. At the rate he’s going, he’s sure to have an even bigger 2019.
Big $wift
Big $wift’s name has been buzzing around the city for the better part of the year, and for a good reason. His melodic driven style has plenty of people hitting that play button on his tracks. He’s dropped an abundance of successful singles and visuals. He’s found his niche and it seems to be working. You can’t mention the underground movement without mentioning the Downey artist. If you haven’t tuned in it’s about that time.
KB Devaughn
I still bump 4 me, not u till this day and it still sounds the same as if your listening for the first time. KB Devaughn has that next level talent. TOP 5 most definitely when it comes down to his skilled lyricism and his story telling.
The minute you press play on his infectious gritty wordplay, it’ll be stuck in your head. Add the bouncy and smooth production, 2019 is looking bright for KB.
Moosey Mula, Westside $tew, WeezGB
Any track this trio drops, the volume on your speakers will be on the highest possible level. Moosey Mula, Westside $tew and WeezGB are becoming household names. They get straight to the point, when the beat drops they show off exactly what they are about. The way they flow together, they have a knack for hits. Look for them to have a breakout 2019.
The Prince Of L.A.
The Prince Of L.A. came hard this year, he’s one of the refreshing faces at the forefront of LA’s underground movement. The multi-talented artist can spit some bars and also slow it down with his infectious melodies for the ladies.
His biggest song of the year was Come And Find Me featuring rising stars Blueface and Almighty Suspect. He also dropped his debut project No Cap and his 4 The City EP. Each was full of bangers for plenty of replay value and if you continues on this path, his fan base will continue to grow.
AzSwaye
AzSwaye didn’t seem to take anytime off between releases. Whether it was his SwayeFTR tape with JoogFTR, his Dynamic Duo EP with his cult brother Azbenzz, his Cultlife EP, or his GOTDAMNITSWAYE EP or even a pair of loose singles.. he just killed everything.
He didn’t stick to one producer or one artist, the love was spread around. His work ethic is amazing and he always gave one hundred perfect effort. He still doesn’t get the credit he deserves but his name will be on top next year.
