T-Rains Is Ready To
Massachusetts-born and raised artist T-Rains is coming into the industry swinging in the last two years of jump-starting his career. Influenced by music his entire life, the MA native is definitely passionate about his craft and ready to take it all the way. It isn’t often that the industry sees many artists coming from the Northeastern area of the USA, but T-Rains is here to show the talent that is around. - How long have you been creating music and what inspired you to start?
I’ve been creating music for 2 years now, and when it comes to inspiring me to start music I really have to give it all to my family and friends. My grandfather has been making music since he was 20 years old and is self taught in reading music, and playing the guitar and piano. This then passed down to my father who played the drums and sang himself. Looking back as a kid I always knew watching them sing and play instruments would influence me because of how interested I was in what they were doing. I got a lot of inspiration from my friends as well because they were artists just starting out as well, and their hard work and determination to make something out of themselves through music really touched my heart and finally pulled me towards that booth. I feel that the motivation and determination they had rubbed off on me and really got me started with music.
- Would you say growing up in Massachusetts helped influence you to step into a creative space? Or did you seek inspiration elsewhere?
Honestly the music scene in Massachusetts is really lowkey, and I feel many artists out here aren’t heard when they have amazing talent and potential. With this being said and the person that I am, I feel this really did influence me because I’m the type of person that always tries to achieve a goal when I’m told I can’t do it. Being an artist in Massachusetts while it’s a place not really known for musical talent really changed my mindset on the goals I want to achieve. I want to show the world that Massachusetts is a place to be worried about when it comes to the Musical Talent out here. I feel inspiration is all over the place out here, and it mostly comes from “the haters” or people that just give up on their biggest dreams. I feel people are so into mainstream artists and music that they won’t even give Mass a chance because it’s not a place you hear about a lot for music.
- Do you have any artists or other creators that you studied growing up? Or even in the steps leading to your music career?
Leading up to my music career there were a few artists that I studied and looked up to, Starting with A boogie. The way A Boogie came into the game with a different type of flow really caught my attention. As a kid, it might sound crazy, but I was a Justin Bieber fan. I loved singing love songs or heartbreak songs and relating to what people were feeling deep inside, but would never talk about. As soon as A boogie came into my life and was able to relate to those feelings while rapping with melody and that really sealed the deal for me. Around 16/17 I started listening to Polo G and Lil Tjay and really started understanding their craft and how they got their message across. Once I started making music myself and found my sound and flow I started studying Toosii. Toosii puts feelings into a song in a way no one else can and really touches the hearts of everyone who listens. That’s the exact outcome I want for myself.
- Out of curiosity, which one of your releases would you say is your current favorite and what was the inspiration behind it?
Right now my favorite release has to be “Sad But True”. “Sad But True” is a song I wrote after a breakup that really affected me. I had things that I had to get off my chest and in the song I say “Even when u know I’m Lyin I still don’t tell the truth”. The whole basis of the song is that: I know there were things I did wrong and things that I could have done better, and I understand that and maybe I don’t deserve your love, but I still love you and it’s sad but it’s true.
- Even though you are primarily an artist, do you aim to be -or- are you already a jack of all trades? (i.e producing, singing, songwriting for others, engineering, etc.)
I am primarily an artist, but I do aspire to be a jack of all trades. I tune in everytime I’m in the studio to what the producer is doing and how he mixes and works. I want to be able to fully understand every aspect behind music so that one day I can and will be able to produce and engineer for other artists. Learning instruments to play is another thing I want to learn. I feel like it will open my mind to more Melodies and flows and will make me a better artist in the end. The more I understand the better I’ll be!
- What are your goals as a creative in the next 3-5 years?
My goals in the next 3-5 years would be: 1. Running the music industry with my sound and being a top artist 2. Opening peoples hearts to be able to talk about their feelings without feeling like they’re being a nuisance. 3. Having people that are going through a tough time use my music as therapy whether that tough time be a break up, a death, or just anything that puts listeners in a feeling of sadness
- What can fans and newcomers expect for 2023?
In 2023 my fans and newcomers can expect multiple singles monthly and maybe a year ending EP that includes 5 songs.
