Footage shows officers kicking handcuffed women in the head

A recent arrest in Atlanta resulted in the resignation of two officers who had their responses captured and shared on social media.

An argument occurred between a woman and someone in her Summerhill apartment on Monday (July 26). The women and victim were reported to the police after calls from people reporting “a domestic incident.” When officers arrived, they observed the woman walking with a gun pointed at several people. When placed in handcuffs, the sergeant appears to have spit on his boots and pants. In response, he kicked her in the head while she sat face down on the floor.

The officer’s partner remained silent and watched the incident unfold.

A mental health evaluation was conducted at a hospital for the woman. In the meantime, the Atlanta Police Department was shown the video of the incident, and they promptly condemned the cops for failing to follow training standards.

According to ADP, the sergeant’s actions are unacceptable after reviewing the video. In a quick decision, the sergeant and officer were relieved of duty, and the sergeant was suspended without pay. A sergeant was disciplined for excessively using force against a woman, while the officer who was accompanying him was punished for not responding to the attack.

A statement issued by the Office of Professional Standards says that a “thorough investigation” is underway so “as to determine the facts surrounding this incident.”

An investigation into the actions of all officers on scene must be opened by the Atlanta Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards (OPS), which must be expedited. Rodney Bryant will “determine the proper course of action” based on the results of the investigation.
