Black teen straddled for 10 minutes by Deputy during arrest and he has been taken off administrative leave

In a viral video, an officer appears to have laid on top of a Black teen for several minutes during her arrest in Kirkman County, according to CBS. Nekia Trigg, 18, was crying and walking barefoot on the street when police were called to check on her welfare Tuesday (July 27). 

A later investigation revealed two 911 calls made by people in the area. An African American lady, young and female, was spotted in the middle of the street by someone calling 911. Emergency personnel were told by a concerned individual that the teen appeared to have committed suicide by throwing herself on the road. 

A deputy named Marlin pulled up to the house and began to inquire about Trigg’s health. The body cam footage shows him asking, “What’s the matter?”? Why are you crying?”, he said. To that, she replied, “Why are you here?” 

When he called her he mentioned that he had received complaints about her jumping in front of cars, but she denied them. The teen feared for her safety after he grabbed her arm. She told the deputy she didn’t want to be hurt, and he warned her he would have to handcuff her if she kept pulling away from him. 

Her nerves were frayed and she insists that Marlin is already harming her. The cop tells her to calm down and that he has no intention to harm her. As he tried to handcuff her, the body cam fell off. 

Trrigg’s family was arriving at the scene when they found Marlin straddling Trigg and restraining him. They immediately started recording the event. Meanwhile, Antanique Ray, the teen’s mother, pleaded with the deputy to let her go. Marlin and other deputies escorted Trigg to a patrol car, and Ray asked them to free her daughter’s handcuffs, but they refused to let her hold her.
