District attorney who did not properly handle Ahmaud Arbery’s case has lost bid for reelection
The district attorney who was criticized for her handling of Ahmaud Arbery’s killing- Jackie Johnson- was voted out of office. Her bid for reelection was lost to Keith Higgins by 5,000 votes. On Facebook, Higgins thanked his supporters as well as those who worked with his campaign. Nine months ago, Arbery- a Black man, was killed by two white men — Gregory and Travis McMichael — when he was jogging in a Georgia neighborhood. Gregory was previously an employee at the DA’s office, before his retirement in 2019. Only three days after the shooting, Johnson reported a conflict of interest in the case.
