4L Javi Releases First Project Of 2020 + Interview

The Inland Empire has their own sector of talented independent music artists and one of those is 4L Javi. Two of his many talents is the ability to capture an audience whether rapping over a booming 808 beat or slowing it down on his lover tip. Javi has been consistent since last year dropping plenty of singles, visuals, 2 EP’s and a project. Many of which are doing big numbers across streaming platforms including one of his biggest 2019 hits, “U.”

What you hear is who Javi is. And if you are not familiar with his music, you can go stream his new project Only Fans that dropped today. Only Fans is nothing like you’ve heard before because Javi has his own sound and plays by his own rules. It consists of a few features in Chris O’Bannon, Benji, Pumppfake, and Thirty2. Javi holds his own on each of the records, showcasing his versatile talents and creating an all around vibe that we can all enjoy.

You can stream Only Fans on all platforms, believe me it’s worth it. Learn more about 4L Javi below in an exclusive interview with the rising star.

For those who don’t know, where did you grow up and how did you get your start in music?

I grew up all around the IE, but mainly Riverside when I got older. I got started in music by being around other guys at school who would freestyle. I couldn’t freestyle for shit but I could write so that’s how I got started, was just experimenting.

What’s been the most difficult as far as making music for you during this quarantine?

I don’t think anything has been hard about making music during quarantine really. If anything it’s easier because I don’t have to do a million things, I have to sit at home most of the time and that gives me more time to write. I only been home and studio for most of quarantine.

How did the “4L” movement start?

4L started from just the homies we grew up with and a couple of us were doing music. And one day we were like we need a name for all of this. 4L was just the first thing we thought of and it stuck and we found the meaning behind it shortly after.

Who are your musical influences?

My top ones are Drake, Brent Faiyaz, G Herbo & Yatta.

Are you a “freestyle” type of artist? Or do you prefer to write?

I would fo’sho rather write. I can freestyle for a little bit and then I can’t think of nothing lol.

What are your current thoughts on the West Coast underground scene?

It runs the West Coast really. You slide through the streets and you don’t hear the radio anymore, you hear underground music that deserves more recognition. From Bino & Blxst, Kalan.frfr, Bucks Clan, DB.Boutabag, Bris, the list goes on. You don’t even need a label to be considered poppin’ anymore, that’s how powerful the streets are.

Let’s talk about your new project “Only Fans.” Was this a project you started during quarantine? And what was the creative process for the project?

No, I’ve been working on the project since November of 2019. And I didn’t even have a name for it, I was just making songs and coincidentally, they were all about the same similar topic. I wanted to use a play on words mainly for the focus of the name. And the music flowed from there.

What do you want people to take away after listening to the project?

I want people to just know everyone has gone through the same things they are going through when it comes to relationships or  “entanglements”. And you can really vibe to these songs, play em’ at pool parties or when you’re driving late at night.

Top 3 favorite tracks off “Only Fans?”

Hope So, On 10 featuring Chris O’ Bannon, & Stuck Wit’ You featuring Thirty2.

Any specific music goals for next year?

I want to open on someone’s tour next year. I always wanted to tour, and we almost did this year and then COVID happened. And I just want a bigger platform where I think I deserve to be.
